Matsubaraso was a Ryokan (Japanese inn) where not only tourists but also the locals used. It was in business for a half century in Nagatsura district of Ishinomaki until the area completely subsided during the Tohoku earthquake in 2011.
Tomoya Kinoshita, who is the third generation of the family business, was in training at a hotel in Matsushima when the earthquake happened. He inherited the family business from his parents, and relocated and re-opened as a Japanese restaurant in October 2011.
Tomoya takes over the business in order to keep providing the service to long-time clients. It is only a restaurant at this moment, but he would like to rebuild the business as an inn someday in near future.
